To be able to ride a motorcycle around Tipton, you’ll need to complete Compulsory Basic Training (CBT).
Whether you want to errands around Tipton or head into Birmingham city centre, a CBT will ensure you're prepared for real-world riding. It’s the first certificate you’ll need to get in order to be able to ride a 50cc or 125cc motorcycle on public roads.
CBT Training in Tipton typically costs between £150 - £180, depending on the location you select.
When booking your CBT training, make sure to check what’s included in the course fee. All of our providers offer motorcycle or scooter hire, but some may require you to bring your own helmet, jacket, and gloves.
Taking your CBT test in Tipton will typically take 6-8 hours on a single day. While often referred to as a ‘test,’ it’s actually a day of training and observation by a qualified instructor. At the end of the day, if you’ve met all the safety requirements, you’ll receive your CBT certificate.
The course is broken down into five sections. The final section is on-road riding, where your instructor will monitor your ability to ride safely among traffic.
The five parts of the CBT course are as follows:
Once your instructor is satisfied with your progress in each section, you’ll move on to the next. At the end of the day, if you pass all the sections, you’ll receive your CBT certificate, allowing you to ride legally. If you need more practice, you can book additional sessions.
Once you have your certificate, you can legally ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter if you’re over 17. If you’re 16, you’ll be limited to a 50cc moped until your 17th birthday. Once you turn 17, you won’t need to retake your CBT for a 125cc motorcycle or scooter.
