What’s Involved in CBT Training?

CBT training is often called a CBT test, although there is no formal test. CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training. It is a one-day course that usually lasts between six and eight hours and is designed to ensure you can ride safely and confidently on your own.

To take a CBT in Bangor, you'll need a valid UK provisional licence or a full UK driving licence.

The day is split into five key parts. Four take place off road, and the final part is a road ride where your instructor checks that you can ride safely in real traffic conditions.

The five elements of CBT are:

A: Introduction and eyesight check
B: Practical on-site training
C: Practical on-site riding
D: Practical on-road training
E: Practical on-road riding

You will move on to the next section when your instructor is satisfied that you have understood the required theory and demonstrated each skill safely.

If your instructor feels you are not yet meeting the required standard, you will need to book additional training on another day.
