How Long Does It Take to Pass a CBT Test?

A motorcycle CBT test (Compulsory Basic Training) lasts between 6-8 hours across one day of training. This means it’s fast and easy for anyone over the age of 16 to get riding on the roads on either a moped, scooter or motorcycle (with an engine power of up to 125cc).

Although it is often referred to as a ‘test’ it is actually just a day's training course where you will be taught how to ride and then be given the chance to ride a scooter or motorbike yourself on both a training pad and then out on the roads.

Can I Fail a CBT Test?

As mentioned, although it’s not an actual test, it is possible that you might be told you need further training if you haven’t shown the instructor that you can confidently control the bike or safely ride it.

If this happens, it is for the safety of yourself and other road users and you will need to book another CBT test to spend more hours learning the skills of riding.

I Can’t Drive A Car - Can I Learn To Ride A Motorbike?

Yes, you can learn to ride a motorbike without having learnt to drive a car. You will need at least a UK Provisional Driving Licence though, so make sure you apply for one before you book your CBT test as you will need the physical licence with you on the day of your training.
