Where Can I Take a CBT Test in Grantham
Based in Sleaford, Olivers Motorcycles would be the closest training location to Grantham. They offer CBT courses where you will be taught everything you need to know to ride a scooter or motorbike.
Olivers Motorcycles offers not only training but it’s also a motorcycle showroom and an MOT garage. Completing a CBT test at Oliver's will cost you only £130 for 6-8 hours of training.
To the West of Grantham, we partner with Shires Motorcycle Training and to the South, in Nottingham there is another Shires training site in Leicester.
What Happens at a CBT Test?
The good news is that there's no actual test - a CBT is simply just a day of training that you must attend and complete.
By the end of the day you will need to show your instructor that you can control and ride a scooter or motorbike safely on the roads around other traffic.
As long as you are able to do this they will give you a CBT certificate at the end of the training day. You are then free to get riding (once you’ve got yourself a bike, insurance and road tax of course!)
The day is split into different elements, to begin with you will be taught the basics of the various motorcycle controls and how to look after and maintain your bike.
There are also certain safety checks you should complete before you set off on a bike each time, of which you will be taught.
Next up is learning how to brake, what observations to make, how to control the clutch and change gears if you’re learning on a manual motorcycle.
You'll be given lots of time to practice everything you’ve been taught, as it's a lot to digest.
The CBT test site will have lots of cones set up for you to ride around to experience different road riding scenarios.
What Should I Wear for My CBT Test
You must arrive at your training with the correct gear and clothing else your instructor may turn you away as you will be deemed unsafe to learn to ride.
When you select the CBT test school you would like to complete your CBT test at, you will be able to see what is provided and what you will need to bring with you. This is also listed on your confirmed email once you are booked in.
If a helmet isn’t supplied you will need to bring your own with you and it must be rated to an ECE 22.05 standard. If you are looking to buy one, all of the helmets we stock over on the RideTo Store are of the correct safety requirements for the UK.
Some CBT test sites will provide a helmet and/or gloves and a jacket but again, if they don’t, you will need to bring your own.
Gloves must be CE approved and the jacket you wear should provide some form of protection.
You will need to wear boots that cover your ankles and thick trousers like jeans. You can find examples of what types of jackets, trousers, boots and gloves are suitable on our clothing guide.
