In order to get your CBT licence in Ashton-under-Lyne, you must hold a valid British passport or alternatively have been a resident of the United Kingdom for over 185 days.
If you are 16 years of age or older you can take a CBT test. However, you must ensure that you have a physical copy of a provisional driving licence on the day of your motorcycle training. The easiest way to apply for your provisional licence is online and you can do this as soon as you are 15 years and 9 months old.
To pass your CBT you will need to show the instructor you have good knowledge of the Highway code by driving safely and following road sign instructions correctly. You will also need to understand and speak English to an acceptable standard as your instructor will give you directions to follow during the day of your motorcycle training.
Age restrictions will limit the choice of motorcycle you can ride once you have passed your CBT test. If you are 16 you will be able to ride a moped or scooter up to 50cc upto a maximum speed of 45 km/h. Whereas if you are 17 or above when you pass your CBT, you will be able to ride a motorcycle of your choice up to 125cc. As with all CBT qualifications, you will have to display L plates on your vehicle at all times, and you won’t be able to ride on motorways or give lifts to friends or family. To do this you will need to complete a Full Motorcycle Licence training course.
RideTo has compiled a list of our favourite recommendations for both 50cc and 125cc bikes if you’re still unsure which motorcycle you want to ride post completing your CBT.
