Learning to Ride a Motorcycle in Guildford

If you live in Guildford, Surrey, getting around on a Motorcycle is a great way to have freedom, explore the local area or travel to work cheaper and easier.

In order to ride on the roads in the UK you must first complete a CBT test, this is a days training course offered by qualified instructors who will teach you all you need to know about how a motorbike works and how to actually ride and maneuver one!

What Will I Be Taught During a CBT Test?

Firstly there will be an explanation of how a motorcycle works and your CBT instructor will run through all the controls around the handlebars.

They will then talk about how to maintain your bike and keep it in good working order and they will also go through the checks all motorcyclists should do before each ride.

Moving on, the instructor will teach you how to start, stop and maneuver a bike. If you decide to train on a manual 125cc motorbike you will be shown how to control the clutch and change gear.

You get plenty of time to then practice all of this out on the training pad at the CBT test centre. Use this time to gain confidence while you are in the safety of the training school and not around other road users.

The next section of the training day will consist of being taught road riding safety, although you must already have good knowledge of the Highway Code, your instructor will run through how this applies to motorcyclists using diagrams to show things like road positioning.

The last element of the training day is spent out on the roads. Your instructor will ride behind you and direct you on where to ride via an earpiece. They need to check that you can ride safely in order to ‘pass ‘ you and give you a CBT certificate at the end of the day.
