Motorbike Parking in Camden - Guide With Updated Rules

Author

Olivia C · June 10, 2026

Camden introduced paid motorbike parking in February 2026, so the rules are worth understanding before you ride in. It's £1.30 a day for petrol bikes and 66p a day for electric, paid through the RingGo app. Camden permit holders and bank holidays are free.

If you don't yet have a CBT certificate and need to ride in Camden, you can book CBT training in Camden and be road-legal within a day.

Where can you park a motorbike in Camden?

You can park a motorbike in any "Solo Motorcycle Only" bay across Camden, paid through the RingGo app. The bays are dashed white rectangles, usually with a motorcycle silhouette painted inside, or the words 'Motorcycle Only' painted on the road. Payment is needed during the bay's controlled hours, which are printed on the sign next to each bay.

Camden moved to a paid system on 10 February 2026, replacing the free solo bay arrangement the borough used to operate. The change is recent enough that most other parking guides online haven't caught up yet, so check the sign at the bay first if you're relying on older advice.

KEY FACTS: CAMDEN MOTORBIKE PARKING

  • Cost: £1.30 a day (petrol) or 66p a day (electric)
  • Payment app: RingGo
  • Free for: Camden resident, business, and doctor permit holders
  • Bank holidays: Free (unless other restrictions apply at the bay)
  • Charges introduced: 10 February 2026
  • Bays cluster: Camden Town, Mornington Crescent, King's Cross, Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia

How much does motorbike parking cost in Camden?

Camden charges a flat daily rate per Solo Motorcycle Only bay, paid through the RingGo app. Daily rates are different depending on the type of motorbike (petrol/hybrid/electric):

CAMDEN SOLO MOTORCYCLE BAY DAILY RATES

  • Petrol or hybrid motorbike: £1.30 per day
  • Fully electric motorbike: 66p per day
  • Camden permit holders: Free
  • Bank holidays: Free for everyone

Camden doesn't publish weekly, monthly, or annual passes for non-residents. If you commute into Camden from outside the borough, the daily rate is what you pay.

At £1.30 a day across four days a week, that adds up to roughly £270 a year.

One detail that catches new Camden riders out: once your parking session ends, you have to move your bike and not return to the same bay within one hour. Wardens watch for the pattern of pay, expire, re-pay in the same spot.

Camden resident, business and doctor motorbike permits

If you have a valid Camden resident, business, or doctor parking permit for a motorcycle, you can park free in any Solo Motorcycle Only bay in your controlled parking zone. The permit covers the whole zone, not just the bay closest to your address.

Application and renewal go through Camden Council directly. Visitors who need to park a motorcycle can use a visitor permit or a business short stay permit instead of paying through RingGo, but the simplest route for one-off trips into the borough is just to pay the daily rate by app.

Where are the motorbike bays in Camden?

Solo Motorcycle Only bays in Camden cluster around the borough's main commuter and employment districts:

  • Camden Town and Mornington Crescent: bays along Inverness Street, Parkway, and the streets running east from Camden High Street. Tend to fill quickly on weekday afternoons.
  • King's Cross and Euston: bays in the streets around the two main stations, useful for commuters arriving by train then continuing by bike.
  • Bloomsbury and around UCL: bays along Gower Street, Bedford Square, and the streets behind the British Library.
  • Fitzrovia: bays along Whitfield Street, Goodge Street, and the side streets between Tottenham Court Road and Great Portland Street.
  • Kentish Town: bays around the high street and the streets running east. Usually easier to find a free spot here than further south.

The Camden Council motorcycle parking page has the full Traffic Management Order with every bay location, and the London Bike Bays map for Camden is worth bookmarking for rider-submitted notes on which bays fill earliest.

How to pay for motorbike parking in Camden

Camden uses the RingGo app for all motorcycle parking payments. The bay number is printed on the sign next to each bay. You open RingGo, enter the bay number, your registration, the duration you're staying, and pay. Nothing needs to be displayed on the bike. Wardens check by registration plate.

If you ride into multiple charging boroughs (Westminster, Camden, Islington, Hackney, Lewisham), RingGo handles all five through the same account, so it's worth having installed even if you mostly ride in Camden. Camden doesn't accept cash, and the older ParkRight app system is no longer used.

Are electric motorcycles free to park in Camden?

No. Camden charges electric motorbikes 66p per day in Solo Motorcycle Only bays. This is still discounted compared to petrol and even hybrid bikes.

! IMPORTANT

This is different to other boroughs such as Westminster, where fully electric motorbikes park free in solo bays. Don't assume the EV exemption carries between boroughs. Camden charges electric riders, just at a lower rate.

To qualify for the electric rate, the bike has to be fully electric. Hybrids and petrol bikes pay the standard £1.30 daily rate. The wider London electric-bike advantage is the ULEZ exemption, which applies across the whole capital for all-electric motorbikes. We've covered the rules in our guide to motorbikes, ULEZ and the London congestion charge.
