Who Can Take a CBT Test in Rotherham?

If you are 16 or over and have a full UK driving licence, provisional or EU licence (with a UK counterpart licence number) you are able to complete a CBT test.

This is a one-day training course that teaches you how to learn to ride a motorcycle and is compulsory in the UK.

The other two key requirements are that you must be able to speak and understand English to a good level and know the UK Highway Code.

You will have learnt this already if you have passed your UK driving test but be sure to check up on any updates since you passed and brush up on the key information if need be.

How Much Does a CBT Test Cost in Rotherham?

If you’re looking to complete your CBT in Rotheram you will be paying around £145 - £199 depending on where to choose to complete the course.

RideTo partners with lots of CBT test schools across the country and depending on their location, facilities and equipment, their prices vary slightly.

All schools offer the same course, over 6-8 hours you will learn to maneuver, control and ride a moped, scooter or motorbike on the road.

By the end of the day, if your instructor can see you have learnt everything and are safe when riding, they will ‘pass’ you and you will be able to ride a motorbike with upto 125cc engine power (read more on this below) once you have sorted out insurance and a few other documents for the bike you choose to ride.

What Can I Ride With a CBT Licence?

After passing your CBT test, you will be able to ride up to a 125cc motorbike as long as you are 17 or older. This includes automatic mopeds or scooters and manual motorbikes.

If you took your test on an automatic bike you can legally ride a manual bike after passing, as you will still be taught how to use the clutch and gears during your training course despite whatever type of bike you choose to learn on.

If you ever feel unsure about using a manual bike after you have completed your CBT you can always look at taking a 2 hour additional course called a Gear Conversion Course.

If you want to do a CBT test as soon as you are 16 to give you freedom to get yourself around, you will be limited to a 50cc moped and can only ride upto 28mph. If you live in a town or city however most speed limits are 30mph on busy streets so this shouldn’t be an issue and as soon as you turn 17 you can upgrade to a 125cc bike.
