If you’re wanting to learn how to ride a motorbike in Clapham, it will cost you between £145 - £160 and consists of a one-day training course called a CBT. This stands for Compulsory Basic Training and is a course rather than a test.
After completing the full day of training you will be issued with a CBT certificate making you legal to ride on roads in the UK.
During the day, if your instructor thinks you don’t have sufficient knowledge of The Highway Code (due to not driving safely) or can’t master how to control a bike they will end your training and ask you to come back from further training. This is for your own safety and other road users safety.
RideTo has a long list of CBT test centres in and around central London so you can find one that works best for you by entering your postcode above.
CBT Test Near Clapham
The closest training school to Clapham is only 4 miles away in Crystal Palace. You will find Phoenix Motorcycle Training located at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre which makes it a great location to complete a CBT test at as it has great facilities and is easy to get to from anywhere in London. Just hop on a bus or train from Clapham and you will be at Phoenix within about an hour.
Always leave plenty of time to get to your training as you cannot join a CBT test late. This is a rule set by DVSA (not by RideTo) and it's a government requirement to make sure no one misses key safety information. If you arrive late you will be turned away and you will need to book and pay again so check for road closures or issues / delays with public transport and always have a plan B!
What Licence Do I Need to Do a CBT?
Before you book your CBT test you need to already have either a UK driving licence, a UK provisional licence or an EU licence with a UK counterpart licence number.
If you have just applied for a licence or realised yours needed renewing, we would recommend waiting to book your CBT test until you have the physical licence back from the DVLA.
We say this because you don’t want to risk there being any delays/ issues preventing you from having it with you on the day of your CBT test as you won’t be allowed to train without it and you will have to pay for a second course.
It’s worth noting photocopies or images are not accepted - you need to bring the physical licence with you.
