The 11 Triumphs You Can Ride On An A2 licence

Author

Your A2 test certificate is in hand and you can now put your L plates in the past – the search for your new bike starts here. But which bike to choose, that’s the big question.

Did you know you can ride a total of 11 Triumph models with an A2 licence?

An A2 licence allows riders to ride a bike that produces no more than 35kW or 47bhp - but what does this mean? Figuring out which capacity bikes you can ride on an A2 licence can be difficult, so this guide to Triumph Motorcycles' A2 compatible model range will help you choose your next bike.

Although there are A2 compliant motorcycles out there that do not need restricting, riding a restricted larger capacity bike will offer more road presence and put you in good stead for taking your full A licence, when time and experience allows. The combination of Triumph’s A2 restrictor kit and a little fitting time at your local Triumph dealer means that the below list of bikes can easily be restricted to A2 and just as easily returned to standard once you have taken your full test.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660

Tiger Sport 660

As the latest addition to the Triumph Motorcycles A2 range, the Tiger Sport 660 offers versatility, practicality and comfort to the everyday ride. This capable 660cc sports tourer is a mid-range all-rounder and excels in every style of riding; whether you’re commuting, city riding or heading out for a weekend escape, the Tiger Sport 660 has got you covered. With the lowest cost of ownership in its category and affordable finance options available, the Tiger Sport 660 is the perfect introduction to larger capacity motorcycles.

Triumph Trident 660

Trident 660

Sharing the same 660cc engine as its sports tourer sibling, the Trident 660 provides punchy performance for those top-end thrills. Part of the naked roadster family, the Trident 660 boasts striking good looks and contemporary styling, combined with superior technology. Inspiring handling and exciting performance make the Trident 660’s focus one thing – fun.

Triumph Street Twin

Bonneville Street Twin

The Bonneville range offers modern classic styling and torque-rich performance to riders who prefer a more custom-inspired aesthetic. The Street Twin’s 900cc engine can be easily restricted to accommodate A2 licence holders. Its accessible riding position and low 765mm seat height make it a viable option for riders of all sizes and abilities. Built for fun and customisation, there’s more than 120 accessory options for the Street Twin, so you can really make your first big bike your own.

Bonneville Street Scrambler

The Street Scrambler is the ultimate off-road-inspired fun machine. Dual sport Metzeler Tourance tyres, high-level single-sided exhausts and easily removable pillion seat create the timeless scrambler silhouette. The responsive low-end torque, commanding, upright riding position and low seat height make it the accessible A2 bike with attitude, ready to be customised.

Triumph Bonneville

Bonneville T100 and T100 Gold Line Edition

Available in Jet Black or two classic inspired two-tone paint schemes, or the special Gold Line edition which features gold hand-painted coach lines, the Bonneville T100 is the original classic icon. Its comfortable upright riding position and low seat height mean it is suitable for a variety of riders who are searching for the next generation of classic motorcycle.

Tiger 850 Sport

As the entry level adventure bike, the Tiger 850 Sport is the perfect introduction to adventure touring. Its smooth but punchy 888cc triple engine is perfect for urban commuting, motorway miles or a Sunday morning blast, while its comfortable seat, riding position and accessory luggage options provide comfort and practicality for riders looking to head further afield.

Tiger 900 range

The Tiger 900 is the largest capacity offering in the A2 model range and with comfort, practicality and versatility at its heart, will suit any rider looking to spend more time in the saddle.

Consisting of four models, the Tiger 900 range caters for every aspect of adventure riding. The GT and GT Pro offer a road focussed specification, with cast wheels and a lower seat height. Whereas the Rally and Rally Pro offer equivalent road going performance with additional off-road capability, due to different technology, suspension and spoked wheels. All four models come with cruise control as standard and with luggage offered as an accessory, the Tiger 900 range is the perfect option for the budding adventure rider.

All models are available to purchase on Triumph TriStar.
