Author

Tony W · July 21, 2021

So you've got your full motorcycle licence and you want to really enjoy all that motorcycling has to offer. Well, there’s plenty of choices out there, from track days to off-road adventures, take your pick. We've selected our favourites below.

California Superbike School

Learning how to negotiate a racetrack is not only great fun, it’s also an excellent way to improve your on-road skills too. Despite its name, you don’t need to head to the West Coast of the USA as the school utilises four of the UK’s most popular racetracks. Courses are available at Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Donington Park and Bedford Autodrome, and offer four different levels.

Level 1 addresses the six most common motorcycle control errors that riders make and 1:1 training help you understand and remedy those potential faults. Level 2 takes that knowledge further and works on your visual skills. Level 3 is all about the relationship between your body and the bike and Level 4 ties it all together with personalised sessions aimed at improving what’s required for you as an individual.

Each level is priced at £480 for the day, and if you don’t want to ride your own bike, an extra fee will get you onto a California Superbike School Motorcycle. You will also need to wear one or two-piece leathers with the appropriate boots, gloves and helmet.

Mick Extance Off-Road Experience

If venturing out into the wild and getting muddy is more your cup of tea, then the Ultimate Off-Road Day might be just the thing. Mick Extance is a Dakar rally legend having completed seven of the mammoth endurance races. He and his team offer all their experience to get you confident in tackling a whole host of off-road scenarios and terrain.

Regardless of if you’ve ever ridden off-road or not, the day is tailored to gaining confidence and learning bike control whilst making your way around 1500 acres of the beautiful Welsh countryside. The morning is spent learning the basics and after a well-deserved lunch, you’ll spend the afternoon exploring the trails whilst putting those skills into practice. All of your riding kit is included in the £240 price for the day, so it’s great value.

You can find more information here.

One of the fastest-growing and most popular sectors of the motorcycle market is adventure biking, and there is an increasing number of training schools specifically catering for them. Most manufacturers have their own school or support an independent training centre, which means you can either ride on a bike you are familiar with or maybe try one out in the ‘wild’ before you commit to buying. There is such a wide range of courses and sessions available from complete beginners to hardened adventure riders, women’s only days or tailored sessions to focus on your particular requirements.
