Here at RideTo we always recommend you wear the correct motorcycle gear when out on the road. Whilst not everyone rides through the winter, if you do, it's important to dress appropriately. Having hands frozen to your bars or being soaked down to your core is not only uncomfortable but very quickly becomes unsafe. If you’ve never ridden in the wet before, have a read of our helpful guide to help give you some top tips and build some confidence.

We’ve listed some of our favourite winter gear to keep you warm, dry and safe this year.

Let's start with helmets. There is no doubt that you’re going to want to choose a full face! No matter how ‘cool’ you want to look in an open face, getting icy needles in your face when it rains is no fun for anyone.

First things first, if you haven't already seen, here at RideTo we're offering a fantastic deal with our commuter rider bundle which will see you kitted out with absolutely everything you need to get out on two wheels for just £299, just select your choice of helmet, jacket, gloves, trousers and boots!

HJC F70

The HJC F70 is a great choice for winter riding with an Advanced Fiberglass Composite Shell and an internal sun visor for those brighter days. The F70 also has an anti-fog lens pin prepared shield and it comes with an anti-fog insert lens.

When looking for a good winter jacket you’re going to want to make sure firstly it is waterproof and secondly it is warm. The OXFORD DELTA 1.0 WATERPROOF MOTORCYCLE JACKET covers both those points, with a waterproof membrane to keep you dry. Available in three colour options at £119.99 this jacket offers great value for money.

Combine with a pair of ALPINESTARS ANDES V3 DRYSTAR® TROUSERS for full protection from the elements.  The Andes v3 Drystar® Trousers offers 100% waterproofing and high levels of breathability, even in difficult riding conditions.

As with the rest of your gear, you’re going to want to invest in a good pair of waterproof boots. No matter the time of year, if you’re riding in the UK then there's a good chance it may rain at any point.

The Richa Drift Evo Boots are a fantastic choice as they are completely waterproof with lots of protection, ideal for all level of riders. These boots come in at £119.99.

The Richa Peak gloves are a fantastic entry-level winter glove that is fully waterproof to make sure your hands are dry whilst out riding. They have a soft armour insert to the knuckles and palm and also have reflective details to help with visibility at night. These great gloves will cost you just £39.99.

If you wanted something a little more advanced the Alpinestars Andes Drystar would be a great choice.

An absolute essential for any rider is a neckwarmer. You’ll soon feel the cold on your neck as you accelerate off on a cold October morning. Our RideTo neck warmers are currently on sale at £9.99.

Wearing a High-Viz isn't always at the top of most peoples list and you’re not going to be winning any fashion awards any time soon. As the winter draws in the weather can often make visibility awful. Just picture driving down the motorway at dusk when it's raining cats and dogs. You’ll make sure people can actually see you by wearing a high viz! It's all about keeping you safe.

So that's the essentials covered. We’re just going to add a couple of bonus mentions to the list which may be handy for different occasions.

Covering your motorcycle over the winter period will go a long way to helping the longevity of your motorcycle. Not only this but they are a great deterrent for thieves. The Oxford Stormex is a heavy-duty all year cover that comes in at £79.99. If that's a little high in your price range then the baby brother the Aquatex is a little more friendly at £24.99.

If you commute to work on your motorcycle then a good waterproof rucksack is a must to make sure your belongings are safe and dry. The Oxford Aqua B-25 backpack is made from a tough PVC tarpaulin which is welded to form waterproof seams so you can have peace of mind with your valuables. At £69.99 we think this backpack offers a lot for the money.
