Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 | Harley Rider Enjoying the Independence of Riding
Courtney | Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883
I have been riding for 5 years and currently ride a Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883. I have been lucky to meet some amazing people and have some awesome opportunities through riding. I have taught new riders, have worked with one of Harley Davidson's oldest dealerships, travelled to bike shows in the USA & Germany and led all female rides to the first all women motorcycling event in the UK.
I remember even when I was about 10 years old, I used to love Ducatis & grew up wanting to own a sports bike one day. As I got a little older I started to really appreciate Harleys, but it wasn't until I saw the Sportster Iron back in 2012 that I decided I simply had to have it! I was obsessed with that bike, and spent the next 3 years saving up for it! I rode a 125 Honda for about a year on a CBT licence. That bike got written off when I was hit by a car the day before my Mod 1 test. Bruised and with bad back pain, I knew I may not be riding for a while after I saw the damage to my bike, so decided to go right ahead and do the Mod 1 test the next day anyway, and passed! Getting my full licence has been one of my greatest achievements. I have ridden all around the UK, and am planning my first trip to Europe for next year!
Biking has always been something I've done on my own, and has given me a great sense of inner strength and independence. Although, I do love to meet other bikers - the social side of biking can be one of the best parts! Having never known where the "biking bug" came from, just last year I found out that my Grandparents rode motorcycles (Francis Barnets!) back when they were young, and my family have a history of racing bikes since back in the 20's.
I've been lucky to only have the 1 minor accident, besides that the most dramatic thing that's ever happened to me on a motorbike was a bee getting into my helmet, and also a leaf the size of my head getting pinned inside my visor while going full throttle on the motorway.
My motorcycle brings me a joy and thrill that is indescribable, and only a fellow biker will understand what that feels like!
